Videoform Filmform

Stile der Stadt after curating the first Videokunstforum 2006 now presents the VIDEOPANEL 2008, this time in a former wine store in Hamburg-St. Pauli. The exhibition is concerned with mutual influences between film, video, and art.
Eleven international artists are invited. They are referring to well-known formats of cinema like the documentary film, theatre film, revue film, horror film, independent film, the narrative movie or the architectural film set. Sequences of these films are reduced, dissected, cut up, reconstructed, and put together again after selected topics. The subject matter concerns temporal filmic processes, the visual memory, atmospheric generation, virtual reality, gender-trouble or political spying. Inventions of video esthetics are used like feedback, found-footage, appropriation, loop, deceleration, 3-d animation, and the videoinstallation.
The exhibition shows film and video in the formats second life, digital video, 16 mm film, 35 mm film, colour, b/w, with and without sound, and an overall duration of 110 minutes.
